About KPE

A History of Excellence

Our background brings value to your future.

KPE has strategically grown by not aiming to become just another large EPC company, but to bring what is unique about our company to a wider array of industries. We have grown from our original refining focus to making a major impact in renewable and hydrogen markets, and from our original syngas expertise into chemical markets. As we expand “horizontally” by widening our industry presence, we apply the same standards of excellence to each sector and employ the strongest, most experienced staff in all engineering disciplines.

So, how did we get here?

In February 2004, former employees of Howe-Baker Engineers, LLC combined their technical expertise and experience to form KPE. They built the company to provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services primarily to the refining and syngas markets.

A history of excellence...

In 2015, we opened our Houston office in the world-renowned Energy Corridor and opened a new building at Headquarters in Tyler, TX. The following year, KPE acquired McDaniel Process Engineering Consultants, Inc. (“MPEC”), which helped strengthen our technical expertise in refining and chemical process engineering. In 2018, we doubled our corporate headquarters footprint when we opened our second building in Tyler, TX.

... leads to a bright future.

In January 2023, KP Engineering completed the acquisition of its assets by The Shaw Group (Shaw), a leader in global pipe and module fabrication. This changed the company's legal entity to KP Shaw, LLC.

KPE brings a 19-year history of superior engineering, procurement, and project management in the renewable fuels, hydrogen, chemical, energy, and oil and gas industries to Shaw.

Combining KPE's renewable energy experience with the traditional refining and modularization experience of our sister company (Chemex Global) enables Shaw to bring unparalleled modular and EPF solutions to the markets they serve: renewables, refining, petrochem, pulp and paper and LNG.

Today, as the KPE team pursues projects of increasing size and complexity across various industries, we remain true to our original foundation of providing value-based EPC solutions for process plant projects at a competitive price, with safe, timely execution.

Our values guide our relationships and business operations, while our commitment to safety drives our decision-making.

We look forward to speaking with you about future opportunities.
