Refinery Expansion

A midcontinent refiner wanted to increase its crude processing capacity and distillate hydrotreating capacity, and improve feedstock flexibility, most notably for lighter feedstocks.

CDU and VDU Modifications

Their Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Vacuum Distillation Unit (VDU) both needed modifications so that total crude capacity could be increased from 62,000 barrels per stream day (BPSD) to 75,000 BPSD, and the Naphtha Hydrotreater needed a capacity increase from 12,000 BPSD to 17,000 BPSD.

Efficient Refinery Engineering Process Schemes

To achieve the project objectives, KP Engineering worked with an outside consultant to bring this important project to fruition. Working together, KPE and the consultant developed a refinery process scheme that utilized the client’s existing equipment to the maximum extent, thereby minimizing capital expenditures.

Improved Diesel Storage Tanks and Distillation Units

Pooling together resources for maximum effect allowed us to complete the job on time while also going beyond the prescribed design criteria. The finished units ran well and within a few weeks, all diesel storage tanks were completely full.
