Interact, Learn & Discover: KPE at Jack Elementary School Career Day

Last week Scott Baker, KP Engineering’s Vice President, Midstream Division, spoke to approximately 80 students at Jack Elementary School in Tyler, Texas for their career day event. Scott’s presentation showed the value of engineering as a career choice. Scott’s goal was to engage the students in conversation, get them excited about engineering and spark their curiosity to explore that career path.

Scott talked to the students about his responsibilities, what he liked most and least about his job, why he chose his career, and about what school subjects and education were needed for this career. KP Engineering provided a 3D model video to demonstrate the tasks of the different engineering disciplines. The students at Jack Elementary were all given a KPE highlighter set that helped them learn how engineers use the colors to communicate “add, delete, or no change” on project drawings.

US Department of Labor states chemical engineering, Scott’s field, is projected to grow 8 percent from 2016 to 2026, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Demand for chemical engineers’ services grows with the demand for the products of various manufacturing industries. Presentations like these inform and excite the younger generations about this career path.
