CDU/VDU
A mid-continent refiner required both a new Vacuum Distillation Unit (VDU) and a revamp of their Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) to increase their refinery’s capacity and feedstock flexibility.
Crude Distillation Unit & Vacuum Distillation Unit Modifications
This project illustrates KPE’s ability to use our deep refining knowledge to combine the EPC of new units with revamps of existing ones to substantially improve capacity and operating flexibility while optimizing performance and economic objectives.
The new VDU/ CDU revamp required unique modifications to meet client needs:
For the VDU, KPE modified its temperature profile and selected an optimum tower size designed to increase operating flexibility and optimize steam generation.
The CDU modifications allowed the refinery to significantly increase crude processing capacity and enabled them to process a heavier, more sour crude slate.
This complex project was completed on time, on budget, and with impeccable safety.
